This 1990 World Cup anthem became New Order's only UK number-one single, featuring a guest rap by England footballer John Barnes. Written by the band with comedian Keith Allen, it was originally titled "E for England" until the Football Association vetoed it, suspecting a reference to ecstasy. Bernard Sumner called it "the last straw for Joy Division fans" due to its upbeat sound inverting their former band's gloomy image.
