Big Star

Big Star formed in Memphis in 1971, led by Alex Chilton (formerly of The Box Tops) and Chris Bell. Despite critical acclaim for their power pop albums "#1 Record" and "Radio City," the band suffered from poor distribution and commercial failure during their initial run. Their influence grew substantially in later decades as artists like R.E.M. and The Replacements cited them as a major inspiration.
