David Lee Roth
David Lee Roth launched his solo career in 1985 after leaving Van Halen, where he had been the flamboyant frontman since 1974. His solo debut EP "Crazy from the Heat" featured covers of "California Girls" and "Just a Gigolo," both of which became hits. Roth's 1986 full-length album "Eat 'Em and Smile" showcased his hard rock style with guitarist Steve Vai, maintaining his commercial success throughout the late 1980s.
