New Edition
New Edition formed in Boston in 1978 as a quintet of teenagers who modernized the boy band concept with contemporary R&B. Discovered by producer Maurice Starr, the group launched the careers of Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, and later Johnny Gill. Their sophisticated harmonies and urban contemporary sound on hits like "Cool It Now" and "If It Isn't Love" influenced the new jack swing era and paved the way for groups like Boyz II Men.
