Pat Benatar
Pat Benatar emerged from New York in the late 1970s with a powerful mezzo-soprano voice and hard rock sound that set her apart in a male-dominated genre. Her 1979 debut "In the Heat of the Night" and subsequent albums like "Crimes of Passion" (1980) and "Precious Time" (1981) produced numerous hit singles and established her as one of rock's leading female vocalists. Benatar won four consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance from 1980 to 1983. She continued releasing successful albums throughout the 1980s, with hits spanning rock ballads and uptempo rockers.
