The Go-Go's

The Go-Go's formed in Los Angeles in 1978 and became the first all-female band writing their own songs and playing their own instruments to top the Billboard album chart. Their 1981 debut "Beauty and the Beat" spent six weeks at number one and produced hits like "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed." The band's new wave pop sound blended punk energy with infectious melodies, earning them commercial success throughout the early 1980s.
