The Pointer Sisters began in Oakland, California in 1969 as a family vocal group, initially performing jazz, blues, and R&B standards. The group shifted to contemporary pop and dance music in the late 1970s and early 1980s, achieving their greatest commercial success with the album "Break Out" (1983). Sisters Ruth, Anita, June, and Bonnie (who left in 1977) showcased versatile vocal harmonies across multiple genres. Their sound ranged from disco and funk to rock-influenced pop throughout their career.
